Trump and the following months of his presidency proved beyond any doubt that mainstream media's viewpoint is highly questionable at best. This trend, when coupled with the increasing censorship on various social media platforms has forced the public to come up with alternatives for expressing their opinions, as well as for getting their news.

Newsvoice works like a news aggregator, except it's unique in two key aspects. The publications that are linked to a news subject are all categorized as either left-leaning or right-leaning from an American politics perspective. Pieces that do not belong to an American source are tagged based on their geographical location, such as Europe or Asia.

The second aspect is even more worthy of attention. The news links, headlines, pictures, and descriptions are all editable and subject to vote by the Newsvoice community. The company staff only makes sure that the written content fits news standards, such as succinct sentences and unbiased objectivity.

The Newsvoice creator, Viktor Lindholt is a former Google employee who became worried of how the news media is used to shape people's opinions on more than just politics, also targeting health and consumer behavior in a downright socio-engineered fashion.

Final Thoughts

Newsvoice represents a breath of fresh air in the current news environment. It helps to bring a little more transparency for the regular user, while also providing a means for the proactive volunteer to give a positive contribution. What I found odd though is that the only way of creating an account on Newsvoice is by connecting with your Google account. You would think that an anti-Orwellian initiative would distance itself from using the services of one of the world's biggest IT corporations. But maybe Newsvoice's hardware server capabilities aren't yet as developed as the app is itself reasonably new.
